Thanks Sutherland!

Once again, a big Thank You goes out to the Sutherland crew. Though I was not able to attend the party, due to life being a fucktard right now, I heard good things. I hope everyone had a blast there. I really wish I could have attended.

It was rather sad that we were unable to share what was to be the highlight this year. Sundae Body Shots are super fun. People really loved the Fried Ice Cream I brought last year, and the Sundaes are basically the same thing but without the Rumchata. Also, there’s chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Cherries too if you are inclined. There was also a possibility of having an alcohol infused fruit salad, but alas, prep time was screwed over.

Unfortunately, only the Skittles Jigglers made an appearance this year. But hey, they were a huge hit last year. Seems like these will be a tradition for the party whenever we are able to make it. They are fun, and they pack a punch. Thank you to anyone who tipped and gave donations for our efforts. (Well, mainly Eldritch, she’s the one who made them. Also, thanks to the volunteer that helped serve them. I didn’t get a name, but you rock!)

In other news, I’ve added a “Like” button over on the right side of the main page. I heard people were asking about a couple things including Facebook. Yes, we do have a page there. It’s pretty bare, and I need to update it, but it is in fact there.

For a direct link: Drunken Alchemy’s Facebook page.

I’ll start up a FAQ at some point once we have a bit more interaction on the site here and on Facebook. We are all about the social aspect of drinking, so please, share your thoughts, suggestions, and comments!

Helps

Obviously we’ve been slacking. Again. This time I won’t say I’m sorry. Life has thrown a mess at us, and things are very stressful right now.

My husband had sudden chest surgery, so that takes priority. I’m not going to share details here, but let me tell ya… This sucks.

I’ve added a Donate button on the right. This is something that I’ve been meaning to do anyway. If you would like to donate to Drunken Alchemy, and help out with funding the website or other antics and experiments… Please do.

If you would like to donate to help out with medical bills we will end up facing. Please do more.

As always, thanks for the patience with our slow asses.

Nuts!

So here’s a little rambling about one of our latest purchases. We finally decided to pick up a bottle of (giggle inducing) Nut Liquor. It’s peanut butter vodka.

Sadly enough, it’s not really a peanut butter flavor. It’s very smooth and does evoke the creaminess of peanut butter, but the nut flavor doesn’t really say peanut. Mixing it with other things can help a bit, but overall we were a bit disappointed with it. We tried it with a cream liqueur and a couple berry type schnapps. Not bad, but still not a true PB&J taste. It does go well with chocolate flavored, well, anything.

Now, while it is good, I do prefer Frangelico for my nutty needs.

I’m sure we can get some more details about it, but I’m kinda killing things in Rift right now so… Check out theĀ Nut Liquor recipes from their website.

/responsible

Ok, I’ve got a couple of things for today.

First off, last night I managed to accidentally obey a few Alchemy rules.

  • Don’t drink alone
  • Don’t drink when angry

Always good advice. Both of those can make for a worse day than it may have already been.

I say accidentally because I totally planned on drinking last night. I was set on that by around 8 am. (It was that kind of day…) I received a gift of alcohol last Friday, and wanted to try it out. It’s some sort of orange Kahlua concoction. My first thought was to try it in chocolate milk. I’ll probably get to that this weekend. But yeah, yesterday was not a day I needed to be drinking. It was full of tiny little things that kept going wrong throughout the day. So… Being aggravated by many small things didn’t make for a good drinking set up. I ended up just going to bed after I gave up on the day.

Also, drink experiments kind of suck when you are by yourself. Drunken Alchemy really enjoys the social aspect of drinking. It’s pretty much what we promote around here. (Safety being the first.) It’s definitely more fun to share a new drink with someone vs sitting there by yourself thinking “Hey, good job me. I made something drinkable!”.

So hey, go me for being responsible. At no point should you ever feel bad about saying that. It’s a good thing. Promote that. Share that. Be proud of that.

Fuzzy Oranges

I’m sure I’ve posted about doing this before, but if not… Yay new content! (But probably not…)

Boozy fruit is a fun thing. Take just about any fruit and toss it in a container with some alcohol. Let it sit overnight or for several days. Simple concept. Nothing new. People do it all the time.

A favorite fruit of mine to turn boozy is mandarin oranges. You can easily get these in nice plastic jars with screw top lids. The containers are perfect, and the fruit is already peeled and in bite size slices. Plus, oranges have a knack for soaking up the alcohol nicely. They work better than strawberries, grapes, and apples. Although, if you want a nice boozy fruit salad, just go for it.

Dehydrated fruit does work well too, but you have to watch what kind you get. Sometimes the fruit can end up being so tart that it’s even more harsh to take a bite out of.

Why is this being posted? It’s because I have a nice jar of mandarin oranges soaking in a peach schnapps bath in my fridge. They will be had on Saturday, and will have had a week to turn extra boozy.

Fuzzy Navel bites. Fuck yeah.

Drunken DJ

Every good party needs good music. For one, it’s fun. Two, it kinda helps keep you a bit sober. Cuz really, dancing while drunk just means “face to floor”.

Personally, I always have a better time when I go out to a bar or club and there is music on that keeps me dancing. Call me a choreophiliac, but hey, it works for me. I actually get a better buzz from dancing versus alcohol. (Don’t tell my rum I said that… I love you too Private Stock.)

At any rate… I’m playing around with turntable.fm. Drunken Alchemy is now a DJ on there. šŸ˜€ If this ends up being a lot of fun, then we can “host” online parties. Fuck yeah!

Drunken Alchemy turntable room. Come join!

Fa la la oops…

So the holidays and other life events have made posting here a bit difficult as of late.

{insert standard apologies here}

As usual, I’mĀ hoping to get more shit done on the site. In the meantime, please note that Tequila Rose is fantastic in hot chocolate.

Tootsie Shots

It seems that we are always making alcoholic versions of food items, whether it is intentional or accidental. Either way, it’s fun.

Last weekend we tried out a combination of UV Chocolate Cake and Orange Crush. The result was something that tastes like a Tootsie Pop.

This is great since we needed something to go with that UV Chocolate Cake. To us it really tastes more like a Tootsie Pop than cake anyway. So, add some fruity flavor sodas and there ya go.

I’d say it’s better in shot form. Could be too sweet as a full drink, but hey, it’s up to you.

Bleh

Ideas have been floating around. However, actually trying out new drinks had to be put on hold.

Boo for being sick.

Yup. That one should really go in the rules list. Or at least a drinking guidelines list. Seriously, don’t drink alcohol when you are sick. I did that once before way back in college, and the results weren’t pretty. I was just getting over a cold. Felt tons better. Stuffy nose was over with, no aches… All good right? Nope. Tolerance? Yeah, that died with the cold.

Only had a few drinks that night and while I did manage to get myself pretty trashed, I felt like crap the entire next day. I rarely get hangovers, and that was… Ick.

So, one of the few things college taught me. Never drink when sick, or just getting over something. You can’t have as much as you would like, because one or two will knock you on your ass or make you roll down a hill because you are too lazy to walk the entire way home…

That totally hinders the experiment process. So… Once the lingering leftover bits of cold finally go away… Oh yeah. I’m celebrating. :)
